The Fallen Officer:
30-year-old Investigator Taylor Bristow was shot in the face while serving a warrant related to a child sexual exploitation investigation and ultimately succumbed to the gunshot wound three days later.
The Circumstance:
On Tuesday morning, deputies went to a home on Don Rich Drive in Carrollton to execute a search warrant for child exploitation material. The suspect, 40-year-old Christopher Bly, went back into the house after answering the door, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
“Bly produced a handgun and fired, striking himself and (Bristow),” the GBI said.
Bristow was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital and underwent surgery, after which he was in critical condition. Multiple devices with child sexual abuse material were later seized at the home, according to the GBI.
Bristow was an investigator who had been with the department for six years. West Georgia First Responders is hosting the only legitimate site to donate to Bristow’s family, the sheriff’s office said.
